Course outline
This course provides an introduction to the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) STEPS-A curriculum, focusing on its application in school settings. Participants will explore the curriculum’s core modules, strategies for successful implementation, and methods for evaluating student progress. The training will emphasize equipping educators and school staff with practical tools to foster emotional resilience and improve social-emotional skills among students.
Training topics will include:
Covering the four modules of the curriculum, what students to target, how to evaluate.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand the causes and signs of poor social emotional skills
- Explore DBT strategies and setting up group work
- Understand when students need further support and how to implement skills training 1:1

Speaker:
Carey Allen
Carey has been a registered Mental Health Nurse since 2001. She currently works as a mental health lead/practitioner at Bredon School. Carey’s previous roles are diverse, beginning with her firs post with the NHS ad injury and challenging behaviour, follow by forensic psychiatry in Edinburgh. Carey has a son and daughter who are both living with autism. This lead her into taking a post in CAMHS Worcestershire where she trained as a DBT nurse therapist.
