SUMMARY:New to the role: School Nurses
DESCRIPTION:Audience\nThis seminar is suitable for practitioners working with boarding students and in residential care/accommodation settings and those moving into the school setting as a school nurse \n  \nCourse outline\nThis virtual seminar is an introduction for new Nurses entering the world of boarding or day schools and  for practicing School Nurses to broaden their knowledge. The day will offer the opportunity to meet other Nurses working in similar settings as well as learning where and how to access key guidance and information to run a Medical Centre within a school. \nThe content is specific to the boarding school environment and focuses on life outside of the NHS or private medical provision. Attending this training will help Nurses moving into the boarding environment familiarise themselves with processes\, procedures and responsibilities unique to the sector. \n  \nTraining topics will include:\n\nSafeguarding\nRoles and responsibilities\nPolicies and protocols (medicines management)\nConfidentiality and consent\nNational Minimum Standards (NMS) for Boarding\, Inspections and the wider role.\n\n  \nLearning outcomes\n\nTo understand nursing and the role of nurse in the school setting\nTo promote high standards of care for all children\nTo work within the guidance required in the UK.\n\n  \nTrainer\nJane Graham\nTrained at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children\, Jane has 31 years of nursing background; 17 of which is in trauma and intensive care. Whilst in PICU\, she had a number of different roles. Nine years of that included a role as a specialist retrieval nurse (CATS) that entailed travelling around the country to stabilize and bring back critically unstable children. To do this she learned advanced nursing and basic medical skills in resuscitation\, all medical conditions\, and trauma. \nShe went on to teach these skills to student nurses\, qualified nurses and junior doctors as the Practice educator on intensive care. This role also involved lecturing regularly at South Bank University. She has been a DSL for Safeguarding at an independent boarding school where she was Lead Nurse. SUMMARY:Born to lead: Leading a Nursing team
DESCRIPTION:Audience\nThis seminar is suitable for Nurses with additional management responsibilities of a wider nursing/healthcare team within a wider school or education group. \n  \nCourse outline\nNurses should be approachable and knowledgeable. Their support is often sought when a child or staff member is unwell. Creating a medical team that works well together will lead to a happier\, more approachable Medical Centre that is an advocate for the wider school community. \nThis seminar will consolidate and develop leadership skills in Nurses who are in charge of a small or large team working within a school environment. The day will present skills that could improve the cohesion and working styles of the medical team\, and between the medical team and the wider school community.
