DESCRIPTION:Date: 4th October 2022 \nTime: 09:00–16:00 \nVenue: St Teresa’s \n\n  \nAudience \n\nThose caring for adults or children who have a first aid responsibility \nThose who have an Ofsted/HSE requirement for first aid provision \nThose who have never completed a first aid certificate before \n\n  \nCourse outline \nThis course is approved by Qualsafe Awards\, an Ofqual-recognised awarding organisation. The course covers the practical skills needed by first aiders to competently deal with situations that require a high level of first aid or where they are responsible for people who have existing medical conditions.    \nThere is a maximum of 12 candidates per course. It is recognised there are many different titles for the role of staff within the boarding house. In this context we are providing training for a role that looks to Providing excellent pastoral care\, helping boarders settle in and live comfortably in the boarding setting will have a positive impact on their social and academic performance during their time at school.  \nStaff should join the session to further their knowledge on the standards required to meet the needs of boarders (NMS) as well as networking and sharing ideas with other boarding staff from other schools. Since 2016 he has been medical director of Return2Play\, a sports medicine service that now works with over 40 schools. \nSam has been at the forefront of improving the management of concussion in amateur sport and in children. He is recognised as an expert in the area and has presented nationally and internationally on the topic. He is a passionate believer in the health and social benefits of sport and that by properly managing risk those benefits can continue to be enjoyed. \n  \n  \nDr Alex Maxwell  \nDr Alex Maxwell is a GP\, School doctor\, Sports doctor and Lifestyle Medic. He is the School doctor for Harrow School and Whitgift School and finds immense satisfaction in the varied challenges in these roles. His particular interests are sleep\, nutrition\, physical activity\, mental wellbeing and the psychology of health behaviour change. \nHis aim as a school doctor is to provide the framework for the child to leave school with the tools to manage their mental and physical health for the rest of their lives. \n  \n  \nLiz Robson\, MSc Physiotherapy\, BSc (Hons) Sports Science and Managing Director\, R&J Healthcare Ltd  \nQualified with a Masters in Physiotherapy in 2010 Liz has since been working with athletes\, sports people and the general population of all ages across a wide range of disciplines\, to help them become pain free and improve their sporting performance and activities of daily living. \nIn 2017 Liz Robson Set up R&J Healthcare after having worked as a physiotherapist and clinical manager for Total Rehab Solutions. SUMMARY:Paediatric First Aid
DESCRIPTION:Date: 19-20 October 2022 (this is a two-day course) \nTime: 09:00 – 16:00  \nVenue: Blended learning – day one\, online / day two\, St Teresa\, Effingham \n\n  \nAudience \n\nThose caring for children under the age of 18 \nThose who have an Ofsted requirement for first aid provision \nThose renewing their Paediatric First Aid certificates. \n\n  \nCourse outline  \nThis two-day course focuses on emergency situations encountered by professionals and carers looking after children and babies. This course meets the criteria outlined by Ofsted.  \n  \nTraining topics will include: \n\nRole of first aider\nManaging a first aid situation\nHealth and safety guidelines\nResuscitation (BLS adult child and baby) with defibrillator \nChoking (adult child and baby)\nRecovery position and secondary survey\nWounds dressings and bleeding\nReason for and treating the unconscious casualty\nChildhood conditions e.g.\, meningitis and croup\nTemperature control \nFractures sprains and strains \nHead injuries and spinal injuries \nBurns\n\n  \nLearning outcomes: \n\nTo become a paediatric first aider \nTo learn skills to assess manage and treat children under the age of eight \nTo be able to promote recovery\, preserve life and prevent situations from worsening. \n\n  \nTrainer \n \nJane Graham\, Director\, Hieda \nTrained at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children\, Jane has over 30 years of nursing background\, Many of them in trauma and intensive care. Whilst in PICU\, she had a number of different roles. Nine years of that included a role as a specialist retrieval nurse (CATS) that entailed travelling around the country to stabilise and bring back critically unstable children. To do this she learned advanced nursing and basic medical skills in resuscitation\, all medical conditions\, and trauma. \nShe went on to teach these skills to student nurses\, qualified nurses and junior doctors as the Practice educator on intensive care. This role also involved lecturing regularly at South Bank University. She has been a DSL for Safeguarding at an independent boarding school where she was Lead Nurse. She is also an instructor for Qualsafe\, an awarding body approved by the HSE.
