She is also a senior accredited member of The National Counselling Society and The Association for Coaching. \nAfter graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Counselling & Psychotherapy\, Lisa went on to work with adults to overcome addiction and mental health issues. Having experienced chronic ill health for many years\, Lisa developed a keen interest in brain health and the brain / mind/ body connection. Lisa was fascinated by how our minds can influence our wellbeing and vice versa. After overcoming her own health issues\, she then specialised in the field of chronic ill health and stress. Lisa went on to certify in Applied Neuroscience and Brain Health\, Applied Neuroscience and Coaching and Women’s Health and Neurobiology. \nShe also gained a NLP Practitioner Coaching Diploma and certified as a Life Coaching Practitioner\, Youth Coach\, NLP Master Practitioner\, Hypnotherapy Practitioner\, Mental Health First Aid and completed a BPS approved certificate in clinical supervision. The specific focus of her work addresses the mind-body connection and the impact our language (self-talk) and belief system has on all aspects of health and wellbeing as well as self-esteem and confidence. The principles of Neuroscience underpin the work Lisa does as she believes it is essential to educate people on how the brain works\, how to influence mindset and to understand neuroplasticity (the ability of the brain to form and re-organise neural connections). By doing so\, this enables us to build resilience\, develop essential life skills and learn how to manage stress effectively. \nTogether with her business partner\, Veronika Chidemo – a Teacher and School Mental Health Leadership Consultant\, she co-founded HeadStrong Training in Education. SUMMARY:BSA/HIEDA Advanced Certificate in Professional Practice for School Nurses
DESCRIPTION:School nurses form a key part of the safeguarding and pastoral care framework within our schools however staff CPD opportunities seldom focus on the key areas to support their professional development. As part of a refocus of the training available through the BSA\, we can now offer a standalone Professional Practice Certificate for school medical staff. \nThis course will link professional practice with current research and best practice to provide a unique opportunity for school nurses\, whether working in relative isolation or as part of the medical team\, to develop their knowledge\, skills and practice across a wide range of the key current themes/topics most relevant to their role. In addition\, there will be a linked research project which will provide the chance to focus on a specific aspect in more detail. \nCourse Outline: \nThe course is tutor led and will consist of 4 separate live online study days spread over a full academic year. The sessions on each study day will be a mixture of presentations often with an external expert\, and group discussions. \n\nThe role of the Nurse in a school setting\nThe medical centre in the wider context: inspection planning\, managing medicines\nWhere to now: progression and development within the medical centre: auditing/department development plans\nWorking with children with ASD and ADHD\nTravel Health and immunisations\nManaging a critical incident\nDrug misuse and screening\, Guest Speaker\, Dave Parvin\, Drugsense UK\nDelivering health education in a school setting\nWorking with young people with disordered eating\nMental health risk assessment/working with a mental health lead/pastoral team\nLegal issues\nPolicy writing\nSexual health\, contraception and screening\nManaging children from overseas with medical conditions\nSupervision/revalidation and clinical supervision\nWorking with external agencies\nCourse Assignment & Reflection\n\nCourse Assignment: \nThe course assignment provides course students with an opportunity to focus on a specific area of particular relevance to their school/role. This can range from ‘supporting a student with a complex medical condition; a review of the nursing provision in the school; the development of a new appraisal system; the management of medical records across a whole school; health promotion models; to a student guide to accessing specific support for an emotional health issue. \nThe assignment will take the form of a 2000 – 3000 word written project which can be an essay or a report which must be submitted by July 2022. In July 2019 he also assumed responsibility for the BSA’s training programme\, including both day seminars and accredited training courses. Dale leads on all safeguarding and inspection matters for the BSA\, including managing the Commitment to Care Charter and has also developed a process of BSA Accreditation for our international members. He also liaises with ISI\, Ofsted and DfE on matters relating to compliance and inspection standards\, and compiles the BSA Self-Assessment toolkit\, which he first produced in 2002\, since which time he has been closely involved in inspection in state and independent boarding. \nFor 31 years Dale was a boarding practitioner. After boarding positions at Norwich School and Tettenhall College\, Dale became a Housemaster at Old Swinford Hospital in 1992\, and was promoted to Deputy Head in 2007\, and subsequently also DSL. He has also been a multi-agency trainer for the Dudley Safeguarding Children’s Board. \nDavid Walker\, Director\, BSA \nDavid is the BSA Director and joined the BSA group in August 2023. He has over 20 years’ experience in boarding schools and has worked in a range of schools in the UK and Africa\, alongside being a prep school governor and a trustee of a MAT. Before taking up his post at the BSA\, David was Deputy Head Pastoral at a large co-ed independent school in the South-East. \n  \n \nClaire Dan\, Director of Safeguarding and Director\, Sacpa \nClaire is Director of Safeguarding and Director\, Sacpa and leads on the provision of safeguarding advice and support to members and the development and delivery of CPD and safeguarding consultancy services. Claire is a safeguarding specialist and leader with a background in education welfare\, youth justice\, and early help contexts which have involved a strong focus on diverse and collaborative partnerships\, professional development and supervision of front-line safeguarding colleagues\, and leading multi-disciplinary teams and projects. Between 2006 and 2013 Claire was involved with Luton Safeguarding Children Board as a lead multi-agency safeguarding trainer\, developing and delivering single and multi-agency safeguarding training\, and since 2013 has delivered pieces of bespoke consultancy work\, and providing a range of safeguarding consultancy on a freelance basis.

Since leaving the police Dave over the last 17 years has delivered hundreds of Drug Awareness Sessions to Schools and Colleges all over the country engaging with all parties (Students/Staff and Parental Sessions) to ensure his key message about raising the awareness of the real risks and dangers associated with many substances young people in particular are likely to come into contact with. He does not preach and delivers his presentations in a ‘non judgemental manner’ in his own ‘unique style’\, ensuring that his audiences engage with him from the very minute he starts to speak. He also has strong links with NAMSS (National Association for Managers of Student Services)\, the BSA (Boarding School Association) and Hieda (Health in Education) delivering bespoke Drug Awareness Training events for their staff (including work overseas with international schools).

She is also a senior accredited member of The National Counselling Society and The Association for Coaching. \nAfter graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Counselling & Psychotherapy\, Lisa went on to work with adults to overcome addiction and mental health issues. Having experienced chronic ill health for many years\, Lisa developed a keen interest in brain health and the brain / mind/ body connection. Lisa was fascinated by how our minds can influence our wellbeing and vice versa. After overcoming her own health issues\, she then specialised in the field of chronic ill health and stress. Lisa went on to certify in Applied Neuroscience and Brain Health\, Applied Neuroscience and Coaching and Women’s Health and Neurobiology. \nShe also gained a NLP Practitioner Coaching Diploma and certified as a Life Coaching Practitioner\, Youth Coach\, NLP Master Practitioner\, Hypnotherapy Practitioner\, Mental Health First Aid and completed a BPS approved certificate in clinical supervision. The specific focus of her work addresses the mind-body connection and the impact our language (self-talk) and belief system has on all aspects of health and wellbeing as well as self-esteem and confidence. The principles of Neuroscience underpin the work Lisa does as she believes it is essential to educate people on how the brain works\, how to influence mindset and to understand neuroplasticity (the ability of the brain to form and re-organise neural connections). By doing so\, this enables us to build resilience\, develop essential life skills and learn how to manage stress effectively. \nTogether with her business partner\, Veronika Chidemo – a Teacher and School Mental Health Leadership Consultant\, she co-founded HeadStrong Training in Education. Lisa and Veronika are passionate about an integrative approach to Mental Health and Wellbeing in Education and believe that everyone should be equipped with essential skills to confidently manage the stresses in life.
