SUMMARY:Minor illnesses and injuries
DESCRIPTION:Audience\nHealthcare professionals\, medical providers and those who have a responsibility for first aid. \n  \nCourse outline\nThis course will help the holder gain the practical skills to manage patients presenting with common\, minor illnesses and injuries\, where practitioners work in an autonomous capacity can whose practice covers a wide range of scenarios and age groups. \n  \nTraining topics will include:\n\nEye injuries\nMigraines\nHead injuries\nAbdominal issues: appendix\, stomach aches\, D&V\, gastroenteritis\, hernias\nGynaecological issues: period pains\, PIDs\nTemperature control\nInfections: meningitis\, chicken pox\, scarlet fever.\n\n  \nLearning outcomes\n\nTo be able to assess\, identify and diagnose minor ailments\nTo be able to treat and support minor ailments safely and within guidance\nTo offer advice and further care where required.\n\n  \nTrainer\nJane Graham\, Director\, Hieda\nTrained at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children\, Jane has 31 years of nursing background; 17 of which is in trauma and intensive care. Whilst in PICU\, she had a number of different roles. Nine years of that included a role as a specialist retrieval nurse (CATS) that entailed travelling around the country to stabilize and bring back critically unstable children. To do this she learned advanced nursing and basic medical skills in resuscitation\, all medical conditions\, and trauma. \nShe went on to teach these skills to student nurses\, qualified nurses and junior doctors as the Practice educator on intensive care. This role also involved lecturing regularly at South Bank University. She has been a DSL for Safeguarding at an independent boarding school where she was Lead Nurse. DESCRIPTION:Audience\n\nThose caring for children under the age of 8\nThose who have an Ofsted requirement for first aid provision\nThose renewing their Paediatric First aid certificates.\n\n  \nCourse outline\nThe two-day course focuses on emergency situations encountered by professionals and carers looking after children and babies. This course meets the criteria outlined by Ofsted. \n  \nTraining topics will include\n\nRole of first aider\nManaging a first aid situation\nHealth and safety guidelines\nResuscitation (BLS adult child and baby) with defibrillator\nChoking (adult child and baby)\nRecovery position and secondary survey\nWounds dressings and bleeding\nReason for and treating the unconscious casualty\nChildhood conditions\, e.g. meningitis and croup\nTemperature control\nFractures sprains and strains\nHead injuries and spinal injuries\nBurns.\n\n  \nLearning outcomes\n\nTo become a paediatric first aider\nTo learn skills to assess manage and treat children under the age of eight\nTo be able to promote recovery\, preserve life and prevent situations from worsening.\n\n  \nTrainer\nJane Graham\, Director\, Hieda\nTrained at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children\, Jane has 27 years of nursing background; 17 of which is in trauma and intensive care.
