DESCRIPTION:🏷️ £135-270\n🎧\n📍 Online \n\nCourse outline: \nThis webinar provides school-based health staff and other practitioners with up to date\, practical guidance on recognising\, assessing\, and managing head injuries in children and young people. This session will cover immediate response\, red flag symptoms\, return-to-play/learn protocols\, and communication with parents and external services.   \nContent will be aligned with NICE guidelines and school specific considerations including safeguarding\, boarding and out-of-hours care.  \nTraining topics will include:  \n\nCommon causes in school\nInitial response/on site assessment\nRed flag symptoms and escalation\nObservation\nReturn to play/learn\n\nLearning outcomes:  \n\nRecognise common causes and presentations of head injury in school-aged children and young adults \nApply immediate and appropriate first response\, identify red flag symptoms requiring escalation and document observations \nImplement appropriate return to learn/play guidance and support the injured pupil \n\n*If you would like to become a member and access discounted rates for Hieda CPD and events\, please click here. \nBOOK NOW \n\nSpeakers: \nMichelle Edge\, Lead Nurse and DDSL\, Denstone College \nMichelle qualified as a paediatric nurse in 1993 and spent 25 years at the Royal Stoke Hospital working in acute medicine. During this time\, she gained extensive experience caring for children with conditions such as asthma\, diabetes\, epilepsy\, and acute medical emergencies. Michelle also supported young people with ongoing mental health concerns and facilitated their transition from hospital to home\, particularly with non-invasive ventilation. In 2018\, she joined Denstone College\, where she became Lead Nurse in 2023. Michelle is dedicated to ensuring pupils with ongoing medical needs receive full support and equal access to every aspect of education. \n\nEmma Durston\, Sports Director\, Denstone College \n\nEmma Durston has dedicated over 25 years to teaching Physical Education within the independent sector\, holding major roles in sport\, PE\, and games across co-educational schools where sport is a central pillar of school life. Her career reflects a deep commitment to fostering excellence and inclusivity in school sport\, underpinned by a belief in its transformative impact on young people. \n\n\nCurrently serving as Director of Sport at Denstone College\, a position she has held for the past three years\, Emma leads a comprehensive and pupil-centred sports programme. Her leadership is also informed by nearly a decade of experience as a Housemaster\, which has given her a profound understanding of the interplay between sport and pastoral care—particularly in the lives of boarding pupils. \n\n\nEmma has also worked closely with Michelle Edge\, Lead Nurse at Denstone College\, and the wider medical team to address emerging health concerns within schools. Together\, they have integrated a Return2Play system that places pupil welfare at its core\, ensuring a safe and supportive pathway back to sport following injury or illness.
