HIEDA statement on meningitis outbreak (March 18 2026, 15:00)

Posted: 18th March 2026

We are continuing to monitor the meningococcal disease outbreak in Kent and are in touch with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), the Department for Education (DfE), the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and meningitis organisations.

The situation is being managed through a nationally coordinated response. The risk to the wider public remains low, and schools should continue to operate as normal unless advised otherwise. Activities, trips, or boarding arrangements (including Easter travel) remain unaffected.

We are updating members regularly via email and will be holding a free meningitis webinar on Wednesday March 25. Click here for booking information.

If you have any queries or concerns, please contact info@hieda.org.uk.
