Course outline 

This webinar equips boarding school staff with the knowledge and skills to manage food allergies safely in residential settings. It covers allergen awareness, safe food provision, emergency response, and inclusive practices to support student wellbeing.

Training topics will include:

  • Food allergy basics: allergens, risks, prevalence in young people
  • UK allergen legislation (Food Information Regulations & Natasha’s Law)
  • Safe food provision and prevention of cross-contamination
  • Record keeping, communication, and policy implementation
  • Emergency recognition and response protocols
  • Supporting inclusion and wellbeing in boarding school life

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand UK food allergen regulations and their responsibilities in a boarding school context
  • Recognise common allergens and associated risks.
  • Reduce cross-contamination in kitchens and dining areas.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Respond appropriately to allergic reactions, including the use of adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs).
  • Promote a safe, inclusive environment for students with allergies.

Speakers: 

Tess Warnes, Registered Dietitian, allmanhall

Tess oversees Dietetics at allmanhall, specialists in food procurement for education settings, particularly boarding schools. A registered Dietitian with the HCPC, she holds a BSc (Hons) in Nutrition and Dietetics and has nearly two decades of experience, including roles in major London teaching hospitals and leading a nutrition consultancy. With allmanhall for over eight years, Tess delivers bespoke training on nutrition, hydration, allergens, and healthy eating, while supporting schools with menu reviews and compliance. She is a member of the British Dietetic Association Sustainability Group, helping clients integrate sustainability into menus alongside meeting nutritional standards.


Jason Azevedo, Development Manager, allmanhall
