HIEDA/BSA – Leading a Nursing team

9 October @ 10:30 am - 3:30 pm

Venue: Zoom (online) – day seminar

Audience: This seminar is suitable for Nurses with additional management responsibilities of a wider nursing/healthcare team within a wider school or education group

Course outline

Nurses should be approachable and knowledgeable. Their support is often sought when a child or staff member is unwell. Creating a medical team that works well together will lead to a happier, more approachable Health Centre that is an advocate for the wider school community.

This seminar will consolidate and develop leadership skills in Nurses who oversee a small or large team working within a school environment. The day will present skills that could improve the cohesion and working styles of the medical team, and between the medical team and the wider school community. Delegates will be encouraged to share their ideas and experiences to improve performance and job satisfaction.

Training topics will include:

  • Effective teams – what is a team, and what makes one effective?
  • Raising the profile of the Health Centre – ideas to raise the profile of the Health Centre and continue meeting the needs of the school
  • Appraisals and inductions – an in-depth view of the support available to staff members
  • Supervision – how and why supervision is important in the school setting.
  • Guidance and standards of care.

Learning outcomes:

  • To learn the attributes of a successful leader
  • To gather ideas and resources to build an effective team within your medical centre
  • To have a better understanding of the role of a lead nurse.
