Course outline
This webinar on sports nutrition and supplements looks at the nutritional planning of a pupil who is involved in elite sport with a view to promote good health and maximise performance and growth. This session will connect off the field practicalities and understanding with the demands on the field, giving delegates the tools and confidence to shape positive, lasting habits for young athletes and aspiring athletes that are impactful for their sport and beyond.
Over 40% of youth athletes show signs of under-fuelling during peak training blocks, affecting both performance and growth an only 1 in 5 young athletes regularly eat breakfast before morning training. These critical areas can be managed and built into routine with staff spotting early warning signs and supporting balanced energy intake.
The webinar will also cover evidence-based clarity around supplements and why a food-first approach remains key for performance and safety.
Training topics will include:
- Preparing the pupil: a guide to encouraging independence
- Nutrition for growth
- Nutrition for elite sport
- Sports supplements and energy drinks.
Learning outcomes:
- To know how to support a young person who wants to participate in elite sport
- To be able to prepare them for the experience of elite sport and encourage independence
- To understand what is healthy and unhealthy and how to boost performance.
