Full Time: 23.25 hours

Permanent

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Healthcare Support Worker to join our enthusiastic, dynamic and well-established school nursing team in a remote and rural setting.

The post holder will contribute to the provision of a comprehensive, all-inclusive School Health Service in Orkney, ensuring the delivery of a high quality, evidence based service in line with national and local frameworks & pathways to school age children and their families that will assist in building the public health capacity of the NHS in Orkney.

The team works in partnership with schools to create an environment that promotes healthy living, as well as responding to the needs of individual children. You will actively support the team in addressing the health needs of the local school-age population, including children at home as well as parents and carers.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously and flexibly are essential for this post as is the need for the post holder to hold a full driving licence. The post requires frequent travel within mainland Orkney as well as occasional travel to the smaller isles.

Lying off the northern coast of Scotland, between John O’Groats and the Shetland Isles, Orkney is an archipelago of over 70 beautiful islands, 17 of which are inhabited. The total population is approximately 22,000 with most people living on the Mainland.

The excellent ferry and air connections make travel to the Scottish mainland, Shetland, and even Norway quite easy.

There is a rich archaeological history to be explored, as well as many outdoor pursuits, including diving in Scapa Flow, kayaking, walking, cycling, bird watching, and many more. Orcadian culture is rich, with music and arts and crafts well represented. The St Magnus Music Festival in June is internationally renowned.

Rise to the challenge and enjoy the opportunity – Orkney is a wonderful place to live and work and offers low pollution, low crime, excellent schools, good leisure facilities, unique wildlife and amazing scenery.
