BSA/HIEDA Medical essentials for new boarding staff

Staff new to a role in a boarding house
Experienced boarding staff who feel they need a refresher in this area

Course outline

This practical training session is designed for staff new to the boarding environment and aims to build foundational knowledge and confidence in managing common health-related scenarios within the framework of boarding care.
Participants will explore their ‘duty of care’ in this unique setting, gain a clear understanding of inspection expectations, and learn how to respond effectively and confidently to situations that commonly arise when supporting the health and wellbeing of boarders. Real-life examples will be discussed to provide context and guidance grounded in everyday practice.
The session offers the valuable opportunity to connect and share experiences with colleagues from other schools who are also new to their roles.
Learning outcomes:
• Increased ability to support boarders with medical needs in a safe, informed, and empathetic manner
• A solid understanding of relevant guidance, including how to implement the National Minimum Standards (NMS)
• Practical insight into safeguarding and responding to common health-related situations in boarding schools
