Course outline
The topic of supporting young people with Neurodiversity needs in schools will be explored with particular focus on ADHD and Autism. The course is aimed at Health professionals working with young people in school settings who have additional learning needs. The aim is to equip you with further knowledge and explore how this can impact mental health, routes for diagnosis and considerations for Schools around medication management.
Training topics will include:
- Autism
- ADHD
- Mental health cross over with Neurodiversity
- Diagnosis – difficulties associated.
- Multi professional working including Graduated approach, My Plan, My Plan +
- Medication management considerations in schools
Learning outcomes:
- To have up to date knowledge on Neurodiversity topics such as Autism and ADHD, what is it, how does it present and support measures for schools.
- Understand how Neurodiversity can impact mental health.
- Understand the importance of multi professional working and difficulties associated.
- Understand considerations for schools on safe management of ADHD medications including controlled drugs.

Gaelle Sullivan, Director of Research, Inclusion and IELA
Gaelle is Director of Research, Inclusion and IELA and joined the BSA in January 2023. She is an experienced senior leader and has worked in a range of state and independent schools. She is a qualified SENCO and holds a Masters in Inclusive Education.
