Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Community Public Health School Nurse to join 0-19 Children’s Universal Team in Salford. As a School Nurse you will lead on and be responsible for the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme for children and young people aged 4-19 years. You will be responsible and accountable for the operational and strategic management of a defined caseload and participate in the identification and safeguarding of vulnerable children and their families in partnership with other agencies.

We are looking to recruit a dynamic, forward thinking and highly motivated individual with an ultimate commitment in implementing the delivery of the 0-19 public health agenda, to ensure the holistic health and wellbeing of our defined population are consistently met.

Main duties of the job

  • To work within a multi-agency arena to enable children and young people to reach their full potential (physically, emotionally, and socially) through education and healthy lifestyles.
  • To be responsible for developing, leading, planning and delivering a range of services for children and their families within a caseload within a variety of settings.
  • To provide a public health-based service that contributes to improving the health of children and their families in Salford through partnership working.
  • To ensure effective delivery of the Healthy Child programme, National Childhood Measurement Programme and Immunisation programme as define by DOH

This is an exciting time to join us as we have transformed the way we delivery services to children and young people within the Universal Services. Through innovation we have implemented our new delivery model which provides an opportunity for School Nurses to really re- focus their work within the Universal Teams supporting children and families at Universal and Universal Plus whilst still  participating in the identification of those that need safeguarding.  We have 4 Universal Teams and 1 Universal Partnership Plus team which focuses on children who are vulnerable open to social care.  This new way of working is further enhanced by a single Childrens Community Hub where you get to work closely with other services such as Paediatricians, Children Community Teams, and Allied Health Professionals (OT, Physio and Speech and Language).

qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife or Nurse on Part 1 of the NMC register
  • Registered Specialist Community Health Public Nurse (SCPHN) in School Nursing
Desirable criteria
  • Nurse Prescriber
  • Preparation of mentors and assessors module

experience and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Recent and relevant experience working with children.
  • Displays a good clinical knowledge which is based on research evidence
  • Experience of undertaking Health Needs Assessments.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge acquired through CPD.
