Audience 

• Anyone who has an interest in becoming a first aider for mental health 
• Anyone who has a responsibility for mental health in the workplace ( mental health lead) 

Course outline 

This two-day course qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aider. 

Mental Health First Aiders have:
• An in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing
• Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
• Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress
• Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
• Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support – whether that’s self-help resources, through their employer, the NHS, or a mix.  

This course explores normal mental health and when normal becomes unhealthy it gives the holder an in-depth knowledge of the complexities behind management and diagnosis. It helps the holder identify what could be done in the workplace to prevent mental health issues develop and supporting those returning to work after a period off sick.  

This detailed course enhances skills and helps the holder gain confidence when supporting others.

• Normal mental health 
• When normal becomes abnormal 
•  Healthy and unhealthy coping strategies 
• Creating a mentally healthier workplace 
• Self-care

Learning outcomes:
