Chronic medical conditions

Audience: Healthcare professionals, medical providers and those with a responsibility for caring for a young person with a chronic medical condition in an educational setting.

Course outline

Young people with chronic medical conditions should have the opportunity to be cared for in the educational setting. Educational settings have a duty of care to provide support to enable those who have a chronic condition to have a safe and fulfilling experience. This course identifies conditions and updates on management and support strategies for each.

Training topics will include:

  • Crohns/IBS/Coeliac
  • Epilepsy
  • Chronic fatigue/glandular fever
  • Migraines
  • Hormone disorders.

Learning outcomes:

  • To update knowledge on chronic medical conditions
  • To develop ideas and support strategies for young people coping with these conditions
  • To be able to create individualised healthcare plans.
