Audience: This seminar is suitable for practitioners involved in developing the standards of a school medical centre, or medical provision, and who will be responsible for checking and ensuring standards against inspection criteria.
Course outline
Having excellent standards within the Medical Centre and school medical provision helps ensure you have happy and healthy students who can learn and thrive within the school and boarding environment.
This seminar will inform delegates of the latest inspection criteria in order to support in existing inspection preparation work, providing a checklist of areas that need to be looked at within the Medical Centre and boarding medical provision. Focus will also be given to providing recommended methods to improve inspection outcomes by developing practice and record keeping. After this training, school Nurses and Medical Centre leaders will have a clearer picture of what is required from them to support the school in achieving high inspection standards.
Training topics will include:
- Inspection criteria – Update on ISI, Ofsted and National Minimum Standards (NMS) for boarding
- Reflective practice – how this can benefit development
- Record keeping – what is required from a school
- Policies and protocols – which to have, and why they are needed.
Learning outcomes:
- To be knowledgeable on the guidance behind inspections.
- To manage and develop an inspection ready medical centre.
- To uses a continuous reflective cycle to maintain and improve standards of any medical centre.

Rosie McManus RSCN, Dip HR (Child), BSc (Hons), MSc (Law), Head of Boarding, St John’s College School
Trained at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children Rosie came to school nursing in the independent sector 16 years ago. With a passion for boarding pastoral and health care Rosie has developed an interest in the understanding and development of the health needs of boarding school students. Passionate about the nurse’s role in the delivery of the PSHE curriculum, Rosie is currently the Head of Boarding at St John’s College School, she has a Masters in Medical Ethics and Law, is a NUCO trainer and has a keen interest in the development of the school nurse role.
Lee Glaser, Director, Hieda and Group Services Director, BSA Group
Lee has extensive experience in pastoral care. Prior to becoming Headmaster and CEO at Taunton School in Somerset he was the School’s Deputy Head which involved leading the pastoral team and being the Designated Safeguarding Lead. Outstanding support for student and staff wellbeing has always been at the heart of his approach and the School was recently shortlisted for a TES Award for excellence in this area.
Lee has always worked closely with the School’s medical team which provided excellent support to the community, particularly during the COVID pandemic. He is excited to be supporting HIEDA members in delivering the highest quality of care in their own environments.
