Course outline
Adolescence is a key stage of brain development that influences how young people think, behave, and respond emotionally. This session explores these changes looking at how brain development shapes decision-making, emotional regulation, risk-taking and social behaviours.
The training will also touch on potential sex differences in social, emotional and behavioural development, and include a brief consideration of neurodiversity, recognising that some students may experience and process the world differently. Participants will reflect on how approaches and procedures may need to be adapted to better support students.

- Adolescent brain development and its influence on behaviour
- Emotional regulation, decision-making, and risk-taking in young people
- Sex differences in social, emotional and behavioural development
- A brief consideration of neurodiversity and adapting approaches to support different needs

Lisa Jones is a multi-award-winning, science-driven therapist, coach, and trainer who believes prevention is key to positive mental health. She works across the corporate and education sectors, delivering training on brain health, resilience, stress management, and emotional wellbeing, alongside running a busy private practice. Lisa is a fully qualified and insured Psychotherapist, Counsellor, Wellbeing Coach, and Mental Health Consultant, registered with BACP and a senior accredited member of the National Counselling Society. Her work is underpinned by neuroscience, with a particular focus on the mind–body connection, neuroplasticity, and building resilience through evidence-based, practical approaches.
