Managing sexual health in schools: policy, practice and pastoral care. Supporting students’ sexual health and wellbeing is an essential part of secondary/senior whole-school health education and safeguarding practice. This interactive session explores the key principles of managing sexual health in school settings, with guidance on practical policy implementation, professional boundaries and effective communication.
Through discussion, case studies and resources, delegates will develop confidence in addressing issues ranging from puberty and relationships to sexual health education, contraception, consent and support for LGBTQ+ pupils.
The training will also consider managing disclosures, liaison with external agencies and building a culture of openness and respect within your school.
Training topics will include:
- Duty of care: the school’s responsibility for sexual health management and safeguarding
- How to confidently lead and deliver sexual health education
- Inclusion in sexual health
- Working with external agencies, making referrals and signposting to support.Â
Learning outcomes:
- Understanding the school’s role and legal responsibilities in sexual health education
- Confidence in managing sexual health discussions, pupil disclosures and referrals
- Key areas for inclusion in sexual health and relationships policies and strategies for promoting inclusive, age-appropriate and health-positive education.
