Course outline

The aim of this session is to provide an update on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). Sexual Health is an important part of school and public health provision and ensures a holistic approach to adolescent healthcare. Having an awareness of current rates, trends and the impact of STIs can aid with developing preventative, health promotion activities to meet the needs of your school population. This session will provide you with the background and evidence with some ideas to get started.

Training topics include:

  • Signs and symptoms of STI’s
  • Treatment and management
  • Rates of STI’s in the UK
  • What we can do to reduce rates
  • Health promotion ideas

Learning outcomes:

  • Understanding of STIs and the impact on individual and public health
  • Understanding of current statistics and trends
  • How school nurses can reduce rates of STIs
  • Ideas for health promotion in schools
