An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Joint Health Improvement Team for a 30hrs/wk Health Improvement Specialist across Children & Young People and Families.

The post holder is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership across the 6 Public Health Priorities in order to promote health improvement and reduce inequalities in children, young people and families within the Scottish Borders.

  • The post holder will work across the Borders specifically in disadvantaged areas to improve the health & wellbeing of women of childbearing age, pregnant women and children and young people in partnership with other key agencies
  • Provide specific nutritional/health improvement expertise in order to plan, deliver and evaluate a range of specialist training programmes across the Scottish Borders for staff working with children and young people
  • To raise the awareness and increase the uptake of the Healthy Start in women & children
  • The post holder is expected to interpret national strategies, policies and reports and to utilise research findings relating to the target audience in order to influence partners and clients on nutrition/health improvement issues
  • The post holder is responsible for establishing and sustaining links internally within NHS Borders and with key external partners to promote health improvement and address inequalities in health.
  • To work with partners across health, local authority and third sector partners to develop implement and deliver on national & local strategic priorities.
  • To co-ordinate and project manage generic pieces of health improvement work relating to Children, Young People & Families and Health Inequalities
  • Implementing and monitoring the Convention on the Rights of the Child across NHS Borders
  • Line management responsibilities

Applicants should be educated to Degree Level and hold a postgraduate diploma in a health related discipline/nutrition or have significant level of experience working in a relevant, specific topic, setting, and skill based health improvement arena. Having achieved or working towards UKPHR registration is desirable
