We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and forward thinking professional for the position of Junior Ward Sister to join a new team within our hospital, due to Exmoor ward moving back home to our Medical directorate.
The pathway for ‘Medically safe for discharge’ patients needs to be individual and personal to each patient, so you will need to be a dynamic and gregarious person who will provide outstanding leadership to the whole team.
You will provide nursing care to patients ensuring that patients and their families are treated with compassion, dignity and respect alongside a multi-disciplinary team . You will be able to promote a safe environment for patients and staff members and oversee the principles of safer staffing on the ward. You will also be responsible for presenting quality information at meetings in the absence of the ward sister.
As a Junior Sister you be expected to be a role model for Staff Nurses and Health Care Assistants and ensure staff of all grades are supported in their work.
Main duties of the job
Exmoor Ward is a 26 bedded ward with 4 bays and 2 side rooms dedicated to caring for medical patients who are medically safe for discharge. There is a multi disciplinary team including Doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists to work collaboratively in the best interests for our patients.
Leading the current team will require being an active listener, being diplomatic, setting clear, measurable goals for ward achievement and being there to integrate with the team. A Dynamic outlook to aid the flow of patients being discharged from hospital will be of great benefit to your patients and your team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Supports the Senior Ward Sister and in her absence is responsible for all aspects of staff management, including the recruitment process of staff, sickness and performance monitoring, adhering to Trust Human resource policies, to ensure a fair and consistent approach when dealing with staff issues, under the guidance of the Matron or Associate Director of Patient Care
Plan the orientation and induction of new staff using the Trust induction policy
Plans, implements, carries out and evaluates care given by self and other nursing staff to patients and their relatives
Read and adhere to all Trust policies and ensure that all ward staff do this and keep records on their individual staff mandatory training record
