The role
This is a fantastic opportunity to come and work within a vibrant higher education environment at a prestigious Russell Group University ranked 5th for research in the UK. Within the University, the Occupational Health Service is an in house nurse led team which forms an integral part of Safety and Health Services. We are required to provide a range of essential supportive health services to the staff and some students of the University of Bristol.
As the Occupational Health Nurse you will be a key part of a cohesive team of 7 consisting of clinical and administrative staff. We are a small but forward thinking team based in a dedicated clinical area established within the Bristol campus, and work closely with key stakeholders such as Human Resources, Safety Services and the Faculty of Health Sciences. We are also required to travel around the university site including to the renowned vet school at Langford to carry out clinics.
The post is offered on a part time (minimum of 3 days a week) fixed term contract to cover study secondment for 12 months in the first instance (1/1/23 – 31/12/23). There may be some flexibility with working days although these must include working on a Monday and Tuesday. As the university is currently supporting blended working there will be some opportunities to work from home but only on occasions when the workload can be completed remotely.
What will you be doing?
The role is varied and the post holder will gain a depth of experience in the full range of occupational health screening duties including:
- The provision of health surveillance programmes to support the university in meeting its legal health and safety requirements.
- Administering work or course related immunisations according to Department of Health guidelines.
- Carrying out a range of work/course fitness health assessments for staff and some student groups.
- Providing professional occupational health advice and support in response to a range of queries from staff and students in the university.
- Supporting health and wellbeing promotions across the university campus.

- You are a Registered General Nurse.
- You have some recent experience and competence in the administration of immunisations and phlebotomy and have a willingness to learn new skills if necessary.
- You enjoy working within a close supportive clinical team and contributing professionally to the day to day running of the service.
- You are self-motivated and able to effectively manage your own workload
