We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced and registered Nurse to join our friendly and thriving Health care team, providing a high standard of medical and pastoral care to our students.

The successful candidate will be a strong team player but also able to work independently. You will be approachable, flexible, self-motivated and passionate about working with children. Ideally, you will have experience of school nursing and some experience in supporting young people.

A recognised Nursing qualification is essential, along with demonstrable experience as a Nursing practitioner. Awareness and training in mental health is desirable, as is previous experience of working within a School setting.

The Health Centre is situated on the school site and supports students with pastoral and medical needs. It is a hive of activity and the role of School Nurse is part of a large multidisciplinary team. The role reports to the Sister in Charge within a team consisting of Nurses, Mental Health Practitioners, Overnight Matrons, a Counsellor and a Physiotherapist.

Band 5 salary.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide appropriate nursing care for pupils admitted to the Health Centre in accordance with the Doctors’ instructions and good medical practice
  • Provide emergency medical care in a prompt and professional manner when required
  • Organise Doctors’ and Nurses’ surgeries in an effective and timely manner
  • Support with the pastoral care of pupils
  • Assist with the promotion of health education across the School
  • Support students struggling with their Mental Health
  • Assist with the administration of Immunisation programmes within the School
  • Put into operation procedures for the control of infectious diseases when this is appropriate
  • Provide first aid cover at sports fixtures as required
  • Keep and maintain detailed and accurate medical records in a confidential and secure way
  • Maintain records of drugs dispensed
  • Complete Accident forms as appropriate
  • Arrange for safe disposal of clinical waster
  • Take part in health promotion events and delivery of PHSEE
