We are looking for Wellbeing Leads (2 posts) you will play a pivotal role, from strategy implementation to walking the shop floor to enhance our presence and awareness of our services as well as delivering key wellbeing services and projects. Each Wellbeing Lead will be paired with Divisions, to help build relationships within areas, get to know staff and become integrated within teams, assisting our peoples wellbeing throughout their journey at Barts Health NHS Trust.

Main duties of the job
- support the delivery of the Trust’s Wellbeing Strategy, working with stakeholders to identify opportunities and formulate solutions to implement and develop work streams and embed these principles across the Royal London and Mile End hospitals;
- lead and manage allocated projects from initialisation of scheme and option appraisal all the way through to successful implementation and sign-off;
- have an advanced communication style, communicating a wide range of information to all levels across organisations including at strategic level. This may be very sensitive or highly contentious and require the post holder to use appropriate specialist skills to ensure co-operation with recipient/s;
- identify conflicting priorities and propose appropriate action to deliver the overall portfolio, and work closely with other project teams plus other Barts Health departments e.g. Organizational Development (OD), Psychology, Employee Wellbeing (EWS) finance etc. to ensure that all activity is co-ordinated;
- act as an ambassador for Wellbeing generally by developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with users across the Trust to deliver a high quality culture to achieve local requirements and national target;

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- To plan and execute effective project communication strategies which identify and educate stakeholders/relevant audiences on project progress and change.
- To ensure the management, monitoring and resolution of service requests, problems and incidents in own project areas.
- To act as an ambassador for Wellbeing generally by developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with users across the Trust to deliver a high quality culture to achieve local requirements and national targets.
- To work across divisions, departments and with the clinical networks to ensure that approaches to Wellbeing are implemented successfully and supports employees to deliver the highest possible standard of healthcare to the patient and support to employees to facilitate achievement of organisational objectives.
5.1 Communication and Relationship Skills
- Provide strategic leadership to progress our workplace wellbeing agenda. Work with Trust senior leaders to ensure managers and employees have specialist guidance to enable them to design, develop and deliver initiatives to support these agendas at a local level.
- Act as Subject Matter Expert and use specialist knowledge to advise a range of internal stakeholders, including the Trust Board and individual members of staff, on all aspects of workplace health and wellbeing. This will include relaying highly complex information and discussion of sensitive and controversial topics as well as providing reassurance and empathy.
- Form mutually beneficial working relationships with all Barts Health NHS Trust networks, external health and social care agencies including Clinical Commissioning Groups and other public, private and third sector organisations.
- Engage with local diverse communities, asking questions with tact and diplomacy, identifying opportunities to extend our network of critical friends and gaining feedback to help inform our wellbeing strategy.
- Working closely with the developing Wellbeing Champions network and other key stakeholders, encourage the development of a culture that maximises the benefits of wellbeing in its entirety, as well as the fair treatment of a diverse workforce.
- Act as a role model to promote an interest in, and understanding of, workplace wellbeing issues and the importance of improving and maintaining performance in these areas.
- Represent the department or Trust at relevant internal and external meetings, communicating information as appropriate.
- Ensure that Trust leaders are fully engaged in workplace wellbeing, so that employees know how to access a range of information, training and tools to help them drive forward these agendas.
- Develop and deliver presentations to meet the needs of the audience by adjusting the communication effectively for people at different levels within the organisation or partner organisations and incorporating the needs of people with protected characteristics. It is likely that this role will involve the need to regularly overcome communication barriers such as those of language or deafness for example.
- Chair and/or provide strategic representation for the Trust at local and national conferences and events, acting as an ambassador for the organisation, showcasing, the successes of the organisation, sharing knowledge and technical expertise and securing Barts Health NHS Trust reputation as a pioneer in relation to workplace wellbeing.
- Produce high quality, accurate written documents in the form of Trust communications, business reports, tender and funding applications for example, and be able to adapt them appropriately for use in less formal situations, such as blogs or social media applications.
Analytical and Judgement Skills
- Carry out analysis of highly complex data relevant to workplace wellbeing, drawing conclusions to support action planning, strategy development and continuous improvement of services and workforce practices. Examples of this might include workforce data and demographics or national trends and benchmarks and impact analyses.
- Aggregate workplace wellbeing related risks and ensure inclusion in network and corporate risk registers when appropriate, working with service leaders to develop targeted work programmes to address evidence based gaps in services.
- Respond quickly to new information presented in unplanned circumstances and make recommendations based on rapid assessment of facts.
5.3 Planning and Organisational Skills
- Ensure workplace wellbeing work across the Trust is undertaken in line with the Trust Values.
- Formulate long term strategic plans on workplace wellbeing initiatives and actively encourage involvement across the organisation.
- Produce Trust relevant Statement of Intents, ensure they are kept up to date and that senior leadership supports its delivery across the networks.
- Lead the organisation to achieve its performance goals outlined by frameworks such as NICE guidelines, Quality Standards etc.
- Take a leadership role in supporting the networks’ development and monitoring of workplace wellbeing action plans to drive forward year on year improvement.
- Work with senior management teams to ensure continued self-assessment and consideration of workplace health and wellbeing issues is embedded in each of the network and corporate services business plans.
- Grow, strengthen and support the Trust Wellbeing Champions network, facilitating forums, providing follow up documentation in a variety of formats and establishing an infrastructure for wider sharing of knowledge and experiences.
- Working with the People team, and Head of Wellbeing develop wellbeing objectives in line with Trust Strategy and Values, and publish them on the Trust website.
- Collaborate with internal sub-contractor teams such as Estates, Procurement etc., to create frameworks and guidance to fully embed consideration and awareness of wellbeing issues into everyday business practices.
- Oversee the planning of large corporate events such as workshops, training sessions and conferences as well as regular meetings and one-to-ones.
- Ensure flexibility of approach and continued horizon-scanning to account for unplanned development and changes. This role and its priorities are likely to be impacted by unexpected social, political or environmental incidents which may occur on a regional, national or global basis.
5.4 Patient and Client Care
- Advise service users or community members who may contact the department on an ad hoc basis. This may include signposting to Barts Health NHS Trust teams and also external support agencies.
- Embed a culture of engagement and wellbeing to support excellence in patient/service user care.
- Responsibility for Policy and Service Development
- Produce and annually review relevant Trust Statements of Intent strategy document and obtain senior leadership support for its delivery across the networks.
- Responsible for using expert knowledge to develop and update policies, procedures and toolkits in relation to health and wellbeing that will impact across the trust.
- Ensure the organisation’s activities and performance demonstrate best practices, government guidance; contractual requirements (relevant to wellbeing) and other identified local needs
- Support and facilitate the involvement of minority groups (including patients as indicated / service users, carers, staff, managers and community members) in the development of the Trust’s relevant activities and policies.
- Work closely with managers and leaders to provide specialist advice on all the organisation’s policies, processes, strategies and operations with the aim of improving wellbeing and service delivery.
- Advise the Trust on taking action to put systems, policies and practices into place which promote wellbeing.
- Keep abreast of relevant legislation, policies and guidance affecting wellbeing and lead on interpretation and simplification of these in order to ensure consistent understanding within the Trust.
- Lead on quality assurance relating to wellbeing activity carried out across the organisation.
- Offer expert input, feedback and support to projects and programmes designed to support the aims of wellbeing, including violence and aggression work streams.
Responsibility for Finance
- Be a dedicated budget holder and authorised signatory for the health and wellbeing budget.
- Manage contracts with third party suppliers, ensuring value for money and lead on retendering of services.
- Seek opportunities to generate income and raise funds to enable innovative approaches to health and wellbeing.
