Course outline
This course provides the candidates with the knowledge and understanding of good mental health and the normal highs and lows within ‘mental health’. It also explores what signs to look out for that may indicate something more significant is wrong. Support strategies to be utilised for those struggling with their mental health are discussed, as is how to create a mentally healthier workplace, and how to look after one’s own mental health.
Training topics will include:
- Normal mental health
- When normal becomes abnormal
- Stress, anxiety and depression
- What is a healthy working environment?
- The law
- Self-care and strategies.
Learning outcomes:
- To understand mental health
- To be able to recognise someone who is struggling, and signpost them to help
- To promote a mentally healthier environment.

Speaker:
Ashley Mason
Ashley is a registered paramedic and has been the Health Services Manager at St Peter’s School, York since 2018. He is a member of the School’s Operations Team and Health and Safety Committee. Ashley sits on the statutory Health and Wellbeing Board for the City of York and has previously services as an NHS Trust governor.
